Scientopia -
Our Science Place OnLine
Scientopia is an online mentoring community for high school students
with disabilities which focuses on science and disability related
issues. Students have online access to a pool of mentors. The
community is structured to facilitate student input/involvement and
incorporate the maximum types of interactions among peers and
mentors. Students get to lead discussions and facilitate information
quests!
Internships for high school students - "Real World" Summer Work Experiences
Information Access has teamed with SEEDelaware to offer high school students
with disabilities paid internship experiences in science related fields. By
placing students in the "future work place" great things happen.
Students are given the opportunity to show their abilities to themselves and to
future employers. Local students from the Delaware Valley should apply.
Research Assistanceships
- Research assistanceships may be available for University students
Research Assistanceships are offered throughout the year. Work
is dedicated to improving access to the
science curriculum to students with disabilities.
Affiliated with the University of Delaware's Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Information Access offers positions
within the electrical, computer, or other engineering
related fields. Projects
may also have a need for interdisciplinary work
calling for human factor studies
or curriculum analysis in which other
disciplines (psychology and education for example)
may be sought. Any student
with an interest in our mission should contact us.
DReAmS
- Disability Related Awareness for Students
DReAmS is an official student organization at the University of Delaware which was
established in large part through the efforts of the Information Access in conjunction
with the ADA office. The organization provides a forum to address disability related needs
and to provide awareness among the campus and community. The group supports both educational
and social activities.
Events - guest speakers or special programs
Through the aforementioned projects, at various times in the year, Information Access
sponsors special events or activities. Activities are face to face or online, and may include:
educational workshops, special field visitations, guest speakers, and disability programs.
NOTE: If you or your organization have an interesting concept that follows in the spirit of our mission and you would like assistance in investigating or implementing it let us know. We are always open to collaborating; the greater our community, the larger the impact, the better our community.
